Owasso Business GraphicHow To Apply For A Building Permit

1. Obtain Materials

Obtain necessary building permit application materials from the Permit Clerk. Make sure to mention whether or not you or your builder have built within the City of Owasso before.

2. Submit Application

Submit application with supporting documentation (building plans, site plan, contractors, etc.) to the Permit Clerk.

3. Application Review

The application is then reviewed for completeness against local zoning laws, building codes and other pertinent legislation.

4. If Denied

If the application is denied due to zoning or building regulations, the appropriate City official (Planner or Building Official will contact you. (Please see #9)

5. If Approved

If the application is approved, the Permit Clerk will notify the applicant that the permit is available for pick-up, along with the amounts of all applicable fees.

6. Issuance of Permit

Upon picking up the application, the Permit Clerk will notify the applicant of the necessary inspections required and the telephone number to call in order to request an inspection.

7. Inspection

The Building Official will inspect all major phases of construction to completion of the home.

8. Completion

Construction Completed

9. Denial - Bldg Regs

If the application is denied due to a building regulation, the Building Official will contact you regarding the error and you may submit a corrected permit application.

10. Denial - Zoning Regs

If the application is denied due to a zoning regulation, the City Planner will contact you advising you of the problem and the necessary steps to take to resolve it. Depending on the severity, these steps could include public hearings before the Planning Commission or Board of Adjustment. Once the application problems are resolved, you may resubmit your application.

Other Important Information

1. Contractors

Your contractors (electrical, plumbing, and mechanical) must be licensed with the State of Oklahoma. See the Permit Clerk for licensing information.

2. Commercial

For commercial projects, 5 sets of plans should accompany the application.

3. Residential

For residential projects, 1 set of plans should accompany the application. These will be returned to you upon issuance of the building permit.

4. Water/Sewer

Water meter and sewer tap fees can be obtained from the Permit Clerk.

5. Review Time

Turn around time on a building permit is approximately 5 working days.

6. Bldg Code

The City of Owasso uses the latest addition of the International Code Council.
