Proposed Change to Zoning Code Amendments
Off-Street Parking Requirements
The Community Development Department recently drafted a new Off-Street Parking Chapter 9 of the Owasso Zoning Code. The current Chapter 9 in the Zoning Code has become antiquated in many areas and the new Chapter proposed a more comprehensive approach to off-street parking requirements and design standards. Additionally, the new Chapter complements the recently adopted Chapter 20, Landscaping and Buffering Requirements, Quality Life Initiative, and the Go-Green Initiative. US-169 North Overlay District
The Community Development Department has completed a draft for a proposed new overlay district covering the northern portions of the US-169 Corridor. Overlay districts are flexible land use control tools which establish additional development standards over the base zoning districts. Typically, overlay districts are used to protect areas from undesirable uses, control architecture and design, require additional landscaping beyond the base standards, or encourage mixing residential and business activity to support pedestrian oriented development. The Community Development Department developed the proposed Overlay District in response to the belief that there should be protections and standards in place for an area that is integral to Owasso’s future. Being along the major corridor in Owasso, this overlay is designed to protect an area that represents a significant opportunity for business and corporate investment, important to the long term economic health of Owasso. The proposed US-169 Corridor Overlay District seeks to establish regulations that protect the investment of new businesses and corporations from unattractive, non-compatible uses and ensure the area is visually pleasing, sustainable, and developed in a coordinated fashion. Most importantly the Overlay will do two things, enhance property values in and adjacent to the District and serve to market the community to prospective high skilled jobs which will in turn augment economic activity throughout the entire community.
