Latest News Google Fiber Project Google is searching for a few trial cities to launch high speed fiber networks. What does this mean for Owasso? If selected, residents would have access to an ultra-high speed (over 1 gigabit per second) network that will also serve as a testing ground for applications that change the way we live, work, and play. This also opens up unique opportunities for economic development in Owasso. Research, technology, aerospace, and medical industries are just some of the business that would be attracted to Owasso if this type of technology were available. Owasso has long been a leader in Oklahoma when it comes to growth in residences, retail business and excellence in education. We also have attracted two thriving new hospitals and are soon to see construction begin on a state of the art Tulsa Technology campus that will include a 1200 capacity conference center. Geographically, Owasso is central to the country and has easy access to interstate highways, rail, shipping and air travel. |
| How Can You Help? |
We've set up several ways to let residents show Google how important this is to our city. Participating in any of the sites listed below will increase the impact of our message. The first step is to visit Google's site to provide direct feedback on this project. There is still time to be heard. The City staff have been collecting data to complete a Request For Information that must be submitted by March 26, 2010. Hundreds of other cities will be responding to the RFI. Now we are asking residents to participate and tell other residents that we need their help in gaining the attention of Google.
